Abstract: We are in one of the most transformative epochs in human history, driven for the most part by digital technologies. The Digital Economy is pervasive and has a huge impact on our lives, on our work. Previously unthinkable business models were born that made Netflix or Amazon possible and redefined the distribution of value, a key element along with innovation. Projects drive change because they bring value and innovation: the PM is called upon to manage this change with full awareness of the digital business and of the tools with which he can support his work in an increasingly complex, accelerated framework with new risks to capture and understand. A Digital Project Manager (DPM) is a PM professional who knows the online business landscape and knows the modern online project management tools, making them systematic, organized and guided by a coherent strategy in which project management processes are integrated with supporting digital tools. To outline the work of the DPM, a classification of digital tools by knowledge areas is proposed: a tool is classified in a specific area if it can be integrated into management processes present in that area in order to take advantage of it. It is possible to define integration methods of digital tools and the examples discussed have shown some of them, such as the process 5.2 "Collect Requirements", with Nominal Group sessions well supported by digital tools to facilitate analysis, voting and prioritization of requirements emerging in an objective way; or, again, the intuitive and visual implementation of the process 7.3 "Determine the project budget" through a tool that makes it easy to navigate the cost breakdown structure through the Work Breakdown Structure diagram. The examples are innumerable and dependent on the project management customization typical of the PM approach. In order not to risk getting lost in the vast panorama of digital tools, it is necessary to grasp the indications based on experience by adopting a scientific approach. The world seems to go fast but the real advances are very gradual if we look at technologies through the lens of science. Everything becomes more manageable by going to the basics, going back to the principles. The key principles are therefore: continuous updating supported by a scientific approach tend towards the definition of shared best practices. The correct use of digital tools follows accordingly, giving an extra gear to the PM who, by integrating digital skills at best, achieves an effective digital power.
